When we first started gathering as Perimeter Pointe Church, there was no question in our minds that our mission – to point people to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ – would take us into the community we are called to reach. We have been praying for strategic opportunities to impact and to engage the people in the Perimeter Center area and in the city of Sandy Springs. We are starting the first of what we hope will be many such opportunities.
I recently met with some of the team over at Community Assistance Center (CAC) in Sandy Springs. They serve those in need in the area through various initiatives. One such initiative is their back to school effort, supplying 1,000 back packs to families in need. Our core team will be helping with stuffing and distribution this upcoming Monday, July 28. CAC also still needs school supplies donated.
Would you like to help them meet their goal? The supply list is here on the second page ourcac.org/fliers/focusonkidsdonorsjune2014.pdf . To learn more about the initiative and the work of CAC, check them out at ourcac.org .
When we met, one staff member noted that there were many churches “taking up real estate” (her words), but not doing anything to really help the community. About 30% of the population in this area lives in poverty. We are determined that we won’t just take up space. We want the people of Sandy Springs to thank God we are here because of how we serve and how we love. We want them to know we are for Perimeter. Let us know if you’d like to help!
